Hi Folks,

New owner here. I'd never heard of a Symbioz about a month ago. Then stumbled across it whilst browsing the web. Three weeks later and following a conversation with a local dealer via CarWow (and a short delay due to the SW update issue) it was sat on the drive.

Iconic Esprit Alpine in Ceramic Grey. Very pleased with it on the whole so far. The only thing I'm not too impressed with is the inability to cancel the auto high beam with a flick of the lever (which I see has been discussed elsewhere on the forum).

I'm going to be fitting a dash cam, can anyone recommend a handy fuse to wire into ?

Cheers,

Mike.

Welcome and congratulations!

Also new Iconic owner, getting to grips with config.

Did you try opening the storage box under arm rest, mine seems locked in some way, don’t want to force it.

Loving the car overall, notably the rear camera (and front?) is truly awful resolution though, wonder if we can get them to replace it in the future?

There is a button at the front of the storage box you need to push.

Tried that one by squeezing it, pulling the button up with fingers, it does move but the lid refuses to budge open, will try other directions or call in at the dealer.

Would rather they ‘broke’ it if it’s faulty

Mine works by pushing the knob backwards into the storage box, when you are sat in the drivers seat.

Welcome.

Our Megane EV is also in ceramic grey, so we can vouch for the lovely colour. Oyster grey and all the colours in the Symbioz and Captur are also equally great.

On the auto dip lighting, we cannot understand why Renault have designed it like they have.

Our post from another thread is here:

Hardly a first world issue of course, but sadly not.

Personally, we feel the auto dipping high/low beam operation on/off control is now a step backwards and is our only disappointment. We hadn’t driven the car at night on our test drives, so hadn’t known about the change or lack of control from our last Renault.

On our previous 2021 Clio with the feature, you simply pushed the whole lighting stalk forward or backwards to turn only the auto dipping function on or off. The A symbol on the instrument panel would then display or disappear, depending on the stalks position. All other auto car lighting stayed functional. Really easy, when driving, if the main beam was on when you didn’t want it to be, simply push or pull the stalk and the dipping would temporarily turn off or on.

Now Renault appear to have changed the auto dipping operation - certainly on the Symbioz and the new facelift Captur.

So if whilst driving at night you realise suddenly you’re dazzling someone, perhaps when a car is waiting to pull out of a driveway or side road, moving the lighting stalk forwards or backwards doesn’t make the beam dip, it continues to dazzle others. To stop the auto dipping function you have to then turn off all of the auto lighting, by twisting the end of the lighting stalk the right way. Doing this throughout a journey gets annoying. As much of our driving is in the dark, we find that we just end up turning the whole auto light feature off and revert to the old fashioned manual lighting control.

The auto lighting feature on the car, which turns the lights on automatically when dusk, is very useful and it seems daft that we have to set this control back to manual lighting when we first get in the car, because Renault don’t offer the original granular, easy control of the auto dip by pushing or pulling the stalk.

The Megane EV (which we also have) and Scenic EV have a slightly different operation, with a small button on the very end of the stalk that you tap to quickly toggle auto dipping back on/off. This also works brilliantly.

It’s a shame really.

More detail here showing the official handbook extract, which annoyingly doesn’t work the same:
